IDF leads Indian Delegation to HOT DOCS 2015

The Indian Documentary Foundation is leading a delegation of Indian directors, producers and financiers to the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival this month.


HOT DOCS is one of the world’s most important documentary festivals, and this year is focusing on India with its Made In program.


Jaaved Jaaferi, the Founder of IDF will lead the delegation. “Relationships between Canada and India have never been stronger” he said. “The recent co-production treaty agreed between the two nations has brought us even closer together”.


The delegation will join many other Indian film-makers who will be present in the festival. At the Made In India showcase, 9 Indian documentary films will be premièred. Also participating will be Khushboo Ranka and Vinay Shukla, presenting their film Proposition for a Revolution in the prestigious Hot Docs Forum. And recently announced by Hot Docs and the R & M Lang Foundation was the award of 10,000 Canadian dollars in the CrossCurrents Doc Fund to Jayisha Patel for her powerful yet hopeful documentary “Circle”.


Sophy Sivaraman, the CEO of IDF said “our delegation will be forging new partnerships with producers, and looking to increase the amount of co-productions. We will also be meeting with investors and funders to try and raise more international financial support for Indian documentary”.


Amongst the delegation are film-makers Megha Ramaswamy and Shazia Khan, (both recent recipients of the IDF-Chicken and Egg Pictures Fund for Indian women filmmakers); Joseph Pottamkulam, Tejvangir Dhanrajgir, and Anjali Bhushan. Also attending will be Prerana Langa, the CEO of Yes Foundation, recent supporters of the DocEdge pitching forum for documentaries in Kolkata. Rashmi Lamba, IDF Head of Special Projects, and Nick Ware International Director for IDF will also be present.


Chris McDonald, the President of Hot Docs said “we are delighted to welcome our colleagues from India as we celebrate the work from this great country. We are looking forward to many fruitful and creative encounters”.

Jaaved Jafferi wins National Award for Inshallah Football


Jaaved Jaaferi’s production venture ‘Inshallah, Football’ bagged the National Award for best film on social issues.

The awards presentation ceremony took place on May 3, 2012 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

The ceremony was presided by The Vice President of India, Mohammad Hamid Ansari.
